Midsummer

We spent the Midsummer weekend in Old Uppsala, Vattholma, and Stockholm archipelago :-). On the Midsummer's eve we first had a quick stop at Ulva Kvarn, then went on to extremely crowded Old Uppsala, to celebrate Midsummer in the very traditional Swedish way. That is, with ring dances to live music, raw herring, etc. The weather was very nice.

In the evening we had BBQ with family Lund and friends in Vattholma (a place 30 km north of Uppsala). In the Vattholma area Trekanten some claim to have the oldest Midsummer celebrations that exists. After nice BBQ we went to Trekanten around midnight to dance to the music of a live cover band on stage.

On Midsummer Day we went with M/S Birger Jarl to Mariehamn, and then back the day after. In particular we enjoyed dancing to live music in the sky bar, and watching Stockholm archipelago on the way back.

Alberga

This weekend we went to Paul's parents country house Alberga, but we actually spent most of the time on the road... From Uppsala we went to Barkaby, then further on via E4 to Linköping. During a stop in Linköping, Paul's parents called and asked us to first go to Åtvidaberg, where they celebrated Göran's brother Janne 55th birthday. From Janne, still on the way to the country house, we passed Family Fyhrs country house and stopped to say hello. However, we were invited to BBQ. After BBQ we arrived to Alberga just before mid night.

The day after, we walked down to lake Åsunden and had a freezing cold bath. In the afternoon we drove to Rimforsa and had a pizza dressed with canned mushrooms. Frej and Egil decided to stay with Göran and Brith the whole week.

6th of June

Today we went to Stockholm (again) to celebrate the Swedish national day. We arrived to the Royal Palace at 10, where Princess Victoria, Prince Carl-Philip, and Princess Madeleine opened the gates to the public at a short ceremony. At the other side of the gate, we had coffee and cake on the yard, and then went inside the buildings that were extra open today. After the palace we had lunch at Gåsgränd and coffee at Gråmunken in Stockholm old town. We then went back to the Royal Palace to see the guard changing ceremony, which was extra nice today with lots of horses, best military troops, etc. At 1400, we listened to Herman Lindqvist speaking about royal children in the Hall of State (Rikssalen) in the palace.

Tomas in Uppsala

This weekend Tomas Sjöblom came to visit us. We had a very nice dinner with Johan and Torhald in Vattholma on the Friday. On the Saturday, we went to Barkaby and Old town of Stockholm where we went to Livrustkammaren and also saw part of Stockholm marathon. The weather was quite rainy all weekend, but it was very nice to have Tomas here!
