In the morning after the Degin party we attended the "Ekelidsfest" arranged by Kisa hembygdsförening in Ekelid in Kinda komun (south of Linköping). As usual, it was very well arranged with coffee, home baked bakery, lotteries, and a one hour seminar.

Moscow and S:t Petersburg

This week we have been to Russia. We arrived to Moscow and the Hotel Ukraine on Saturday afternoon. The hotel is a so-called "Stalin cake" (see picuture) beautifully situated with the White house on the opposite side of the river Moscow. In the evening, we visited the pedestrian area Arbat, had a nice dinner, and watched the 3rd place game of the football world cup in an overcrowded bar.

On Sunday, we went to the Red square to see the Lenin mausoleum. He seemed to be in a surprisingly good condition. We then walked in the very beautiful areas surrounding the Red square and Kreml (see picture for proofs). In the afternoon we spent several hours in Gorky park that we found very nice. In the evening, we went to the club Kitajskij Letchik Gzhao Da in the chinese quarters of Moscow. Just after full time of the world cup final at midnight, we had to catch the sub to the Leningradsky railway station, to take the night train to S:t Petersburg at 01:00. We later heard that Italy won the final.

Next morning, at 09:30 we arrived to S:t Petersburg. Irisha and Gesha met us at the railway station, and we went back to their place. In the afternoon, we went to the datcha in Roshino, where we also met Tata, Vadja and Lena, and friends Vanja, Kiril, and Olga. At the beach in Roschino Paul had a 30-minute sleep and in the evening, we went water skiing and had very nice shashlyk.

On Tuesday we went to a market in Zelenogorsk and bought nice pants for Paul and nice 100-ruble shoes for Elena. We came back to S:t Petersburg in the afternoon and went to have dinner at Sennaja square and coffee at Nevskij prospect.

On Wednesday we first went shopping at O'Key (a huge department store) and in the the afternoon we met Kirill for some drinks and later went to Vanja's concert at Jazz Club JFC where we also met Leo. After the concert we walked to the Palace Square enjoing the famous white night and the view of the new fountains on the Neva. We later met Vanja and had a short but nice chat at Mars field and then crossed the brigde just before it got opened. Finally, Irisha and Gesha picked us up at Kir Bar on the other side of the river.

On Thursday we stared late with some shopping at Maxidom and bought a shashlyk-grill for Irisha and Gesha. We then went to Peter-and-Paul fortress to see Lenin's Rolls Roys. Unfortunately, it was not there any longer. In the evening we visited Zhanna and Erik's place - a nice and very central appartment in S:t Petersburg - and had a very nice dinner.

On the Friday, we did not do much more than some shopping. Our plane left S:t Petersburg airport at 15 and arrived to Arlanda in Sweden at a bit earlier (local time)!
